Labour Day at Bakhita: A Day of Team, Freedom & Fun

by Ornella Byak | May 4, 2026

On 1 May, for the Labour Day public holiday, the Bakhita School of Excellence team chose to spend the day together — heading out on an adventure to Rabilau.

Rather than taking time apart, the team wanted to use the day to connect, enjoy each other’s company, and experience something together outside of the classroom.

Founder & Director Ornella and 15 staff members made the journey as a convoy of motorbikes, travelling together through the mountains — a sight in itself, and a moment that captured just how far the team has come.

The day was simple but full: sharing lunch, climbing the mountain, taking photos, filming a few (very funny) TikToks, dancing, and most importantly, enjoying each other’s company. There was a lot of laughter — the kind that only comes from being part of something bigger than just a workplace.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was seeing the growing independence of the team. More than eight of our staff have now been able to purchase motorbikes through credit with a local bank, learning to ride and gaining a new level of freedom in their daily lives.

What may seem like a small thing is, in reality, significant — the ability to travel independently, support family needs, and move with confidence through their community.

The trip to Rabilau wasn’t just a day out. It was a reflection of the culture we are building at Bakhita — one of support, growth, trust, and genuine connection.

Because at its heart, this school has never just been about education.

It’s about people.
It’s about opportunity.
And it’s about building a team that feels like family.
