Our Students

We believe education
changes everything…

At the Bakhita School of Excellence, we are proud to educate children from across Same. Each student is valued, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Our students study a wide range of subjects — including English, Tetun, Portuguese, Mathematics, Science, HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), Religion, Health, Physical Education, and Art & Culture. Every lesson is designed to build strong language, literacy, and problem-solving skills. With two teachers in every class, each child receives close attention and personalised support.

Students are fed twice per day, enjoying nutritious meals that help them stay focused, grow well, and remain healthy. Our modern classrooms and safe facilities provide a joyful environment where children truly love to learn.
Parent–teacher meetings are held every term to discuss each child’s progress, ensuring that families and the school work together for every student’s success.

All lesson plans are created by Australian teachers, while our Timorese teachers receive weekly online mentoring and around 20 professional training days each year, supported by BETTER (Building East Timor Through Education/Resources).

Every student receives their own handwriting and maths practice books, weekly take-home readers, and homework tasks to strengthen learning at home.

At Bakhita, we believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door — it continues in the home, the community, and in the hearts of our students.

OUR CURRICULUM

At the Bakhita School of Excellence, we use the Timorese national curriculum and enrich it with key elements from the Australian curriculum. This helps your child learn in three languages — English, Tetun, and Portuguese — and gain the skills needed for success in school and in life.
