While Ornella was in Australia for three weeks, the team at the Bakhita School of Excellence demonstrated the strength of this school lies in its people.
The school continued to run smoothly day after day — lessons delivered, students cared for, meals prepared, and routines maintained. Despite navigating several changes and challenges during this time, the staff adapted quickly, supported one another, and ensured that the students’ learning continued without disruption.

One moment in particular captured the spirit of the Bakhita team. When one staff member received the heartbreaking news that her brother had passed away in Viqueque, another colleague immediately stepped in to help. In the middle of the night, they drove her halfway across the country so she could reach her family as quickly as possible.
It was a simple act of care — but a powerful reminder of the kind of community we are building together.
