OUR PARENTS
We believe education
changes everything...
At the Bakhita School of Excellence, we believe that parents and families are essential partners in education. Our school is built on the idea that when schools and families work together, children learn better, grow stronger, and the whole community benefits.
Because there are no school fees, every family gives four (4) hours of service each month to support the school. This may include cooking, cleaning, gardening, maintenance, or security work, or donating food or materials equal to around $8 per month. Parents can also choose a combination of service and materials.
Through this shared effort, we keep education accessible to all families while building pride, unity, and community ownership in the school.
When registering their child, every parent commits to:
- Support their child’s enrolment at the Bakhita School of Excellence, understanding that BETTER’s goal is to provide continuous education from Foundation to Year 12.
- Ensure their child attends school regularly and on time.
- Support learning at home by helping their child with reading, homework, and good study habits.
- Communicate openly with the school about any problems so we can work together for the child’s success.
- Contribute four (4) hours of monthly service or provide an equivalent donation of food or materials (around $8 per month) to help sustain the school.
PARENT COUNCIL
To make sure every parent has a voice, Bakhita has a Parent Council that works closely with the school leadership. The council helps plan activities, support communication, and guide how parents can best contribute to the school community.
The Parent Council includes:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Logistics
Together, our parents, teachers, and leadership team form one community — united by our love for children, our belief in education, and our shared goal of building a better future for Timor-Leste.

Enrolment Information
The Bakhita School of Excellence has a strict enrolment process to ensure fairness and quality for all families. Each year, the school accepts only 50 new students into our Foundation Year (the year before Year 1).
Children must be 5 years old in the year they begin school. For example, any child born in 2020 can register in 2025 to begin school in 2026.
To register, parents must bring:
- The child’s RDTL Birth Certificate
- A Medical Certificate confirming the child’s health
Please note that only one child per family may be enrolled at the Bakhita School of Excellence at any time. This policy allows more families in the community to benefit from access to quality education.
While most students enter at Foundation level, the school occasionally accepts students into higher year levels when there is space available. In these cases, students must pass entry tests in English and Mathematics before being offered a place. For further information, please email the Director directly.
Registration normally takes place in November each year, following the official school calendar. Families are encouraged to follow the Bakhita School of Excellence Facebook page for updates. A registration notice is usually posted one month before enrolment opens.
