As we reach Week 9 of Term 1 at the Bakhita School of Excellence, it feels like the right moment to pause and reflect on what has already been a remarkable start to the year.
This term we welcomed around 100 new students and nine new staff members, doubling the size of our school community. Naturally, we wondered how such a big step might feel — whether it would be overwhelming for students, teachers, or families.
Instead, something beautiful happened.
Rather than feeling crowded or chaotic, each new child and each new family has simply helped our Bakhita community grow fuller and stronger. What could have felt like a challenge has instead felt like a natural expansion of something that was already working.
Across the classrooms, students have been settling into their routines with impressive discipline and focus. Each week they complete their spelling words, sentences, and maths exercises, building the foundations of literacy and numeracy step by step.
One of the most joyful things for our team to witness has been the pride of parents. Many families are sharing photos of their children’s homework and progress on their WhatsApp stories, proudly showing friends and relatives what their children are learning at Bakhita. It’s a simple but powerful reflection of how much education matters to this community.
Throughout the term, our students have shown great progress, resilience, and growth — not only academically, but also in their character. They are learning to work hard, help their classmates, and take pride in their efforts.
Our staff have grown alongside them. With new teachers joining the team and classrooms expanding, everyone has been adapting, supporting one another, and building confidence in their professional practice. Watching our teachers develop in their skills and leadership has been just as encouraging as seeing the progress of the students.
As we move toward the final weeks of the term, we feel incredibly grateful for the energy and commitment of this community — students, parents, and staff alike.
What began as a school is continuing to grow into something even more meaningful: a community learning, growing, and moving forward together.
